Women bounce back after loss to NW Elite, while Men look to win out their remaining games

Vancouver, Washington: It’s safe to say it was a successful weekend for both Victory teams this past weekend, with both teams scoring an abundance of goals with just as impressive defensive efforts. The Men easily made their way past Thurston County, winning 10-0, while the Women had a massive bounce-back win against OVF Alliance, with the game ending 8-0 in favor of the Victory.

This win was exactly what the Women needed to give them momentum as they approach the end of their season. Having lost 2-0 the weekend before to NW Elite, it was all to play for with playoff hopes on the line as they took on OVF Alliance. Head Coach Maddy Wright had nothing but words of positivity for her players over the past two games. “It was a great improvement and response from the players. I was satisfied with our attention to detail and how they followed the game plan.” With just one regular season game left, Wright went on to say that she’s “looking forward to building off of these learning moments.” The Women will end their season at home on July 1 against NW Elite, with hopes of moving on to the Cascadia Premier League Semi Finals in the coming weeks.

For the Men, this win could not have come at a better time. Coming off a home loss the weekend before against the Everett Jets, they needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, which is exactly what they did. It was an offensive onslaught, with forward Hunter Leach at the heart of it all for the Victory. He ended the game with 5 goals and 3 assists, with the team coming within inches of scoring nearly every time they were on the attack. They forced the Thurston County goalkeeper into making 20 plus saves, while also striking the post at least 8 times without scoring. Head Coach Jeff Lukowiak was pleased with the win, but knows that there is still work to be done. “We look to build on the three points, with our goal being to win out on our way to the playoffs.” The Men have 3 games remaining in their Evergreen Premier League season, with a rematch against Thurston County on July 1 up next.
